August 2008
Joshua loves to build tents out of blankets and pillows. If we leave him unattended for too long you can bet you will find him buried in a pile of pillows and blankets when you return! He will usually try and make it as dark as possible and then go inside with a flashlight and read a book.

Joshua and Tylee are learning to rough-house with each other a little bit. It's funny to watch them.

Joshua is usually not too rough and Tylee is a big snuggler so it usually ends something like this...

Joshua turns 6
Early in August, we celebrated Joshua's 6th Birthday. He chose to have a Ninja Turtle Birthday this year.

During the day, we had a little party with a few of his friends.

They played pin-the-mask-on-the-turtle. (We couldn't find an actual pin-the-mask-on-the-turtle game, so I had to draw one. A little cheesy, but a bunch of 5 & 6 year olds didn't seem to mind or even notice for that matter!)

I always have a great time trying to come up with a creative cake for Joshua's party. Here's what I did this year...

I think it was one of the more challenging ones I have done, but the final result was worth it and Joshua loved it (which was really all that mattered to me anyways!!)
After Joshua's party, we surprised him and went bowling.

He's getting pretty good. Tylee kept hugging all the balls when they weren't in use.
Tylee is growing up so fast. She is now 14 months old and loving the camera. Look at all those teeth!!

The playground
We've been getting lots of rain and one night it had cooled off a bit (big shocker for August in Phoenix) so we took the kids out to the playground right by our house for some fun.

Tylee took her cues from her brother when it came to playing. She was a bit weary to just jump in and start having a good time until Joshua joined her.
He went down the big tunnel slide first (and upside-down, I might add) and Tylee was eager to follow.

We are certainly looking forward to the cooler weather so we can do this more often.
