More of Christmas 2008

School is out, the kids are home, and it's HOT outside!! I got the bug to get blogging again so I guess June is a good time to finish posting from Christmas 2008! Ha Ha!!

Every year since our first Christmas in Mesa, Lowell and I have gone to Cherry Lane to see the Christmas lights. Maybe it's just the joy of Christmas, but to me, the lights get a little better every year. There are tons of people there and by the time it is the week of Christmas they have to actually close off the cul-de-sac and have people park on the street and just walk through. We typically go more than once and the kids love it!!

Joshua loves the lights that this family put in the grooves of the cement of their driveway. I think he asks if we can do that at our house every year! He also really liked the Sponge Bob Squarepants one on the right.

Tylee just loves the lights. We couldn't get her to be still for very long for a picture.

I loved all the tributes to our country and to the soldiers serving over in Iraq. I think some of the families on this street actually have children serving over there and every year, at least one house will have something patriotic!

We also went and saw the temple lights. This has also become another family favorite and we all had a nice time. We went two times this year... the first time it was raining a bit. We all loved getting bundled up to brave the cold though! You don't get to bundle up very often in Mesa.

This year, I really enjoyed being able to tell Joshua more about the scenes that are displayed as part of the temple decorations. He is old enough that he listens and asks questions. The scenes depicting the journey of Christ's birth are always something that touch my heart.

In 2007 the temple visitors center had a display of nativities. When we went to view them there was a really long line so we decided to come back later, but things got busy and we never made it. So, this year we decided we would try again and thankfully they were on display again! We took pictures of almost all of them, but I will just post a few. It was amazing and neat to see Christianity displayed in so many different places.

This one os from Ecuador.

This one is from Argentina.

I really liked this one. This pictures doesn't do it justice. I am not sure where it is from, but it is a hand sewn quilt of the nativity scene.

This is another one that you would have to be there to appreciate. Each and every ornament on this tree is a nativity. I wanted to bring them all home for our tree!

Before we left our home to spend Christmas with family we let the kids open some of the larger gifts. Joshua got a Batman bed set, which he still loves!

Tylee got her first baby doll. It was love at first site!!

Lots of hugs...                                          and kisses!

Such a good little mama!! She really liked the "disappearing milk" bottle that came with her baby too. Joshua was fasinated by it too!

We spent Christmas with Lowell's family this year. It was a big crowd, but lots of fun! The kids were all up bright and early to get to the presents.

Tylee got a tea set for Christmas. She had fun pretending with Daddy!

After a while though, she got a little cranky with all the excitement. By evening she was ready for some time without so many people.

It was quite chilly while we were visiting. We had fun going outside and playing on Grandma and Grandpa's swing set in the backyard.

The day after Christmas someone had the great idea to let the kids make gingerbread houses. They had a lot of fun. We squirted frosting out of decorating bags onto the houses and the kids piled the candy on. Joshua did a great job on his and insisted he take it home and eat it!

A few days after Christmas (the 27th) there was SNOW!! The kids were so excited so of course, we had to go play in it!!

So... Merry Christmas in June! I think I finally got all the Christmas pictures blogged that I wanted too.
